Here's what you should look for — as well as some key remedies to improve the condition of your mouth.

 

Are You Suffering From These 5 Signs?

Before we dive into some of the most common symptoms of poor oral health, it's important to discuss what diminishing oral health may mean. Take a gum infection, for instance, a common result of trapped bacteria. These bacteria can then find their way into your bloodstream, affecting other areas of your body.

4. Bleeding gums

 

When your gums bleed, gingivitis is often to blame. This is the first stage of gum disease — so if you notice bleeding when you brush, you should take appropriate action. In some cases, bleeding gums may also be caused my medication, a new flossing routine, or hormonal changes during pregnancy. You can also rub a little coconut oil and your gums 1-2 times daily until symptoms improve.

 

5. Increased plaque

 

When you have gum disease, you will likely notice a buildup of plaque. When bacterial plaque forms, it provides a place for tartar buildup — allowing harmful bacteria to thrive. Over time, if you do not remedy this symptom, your tooth enamel may pay the price — which can result in discolouration. This is why it's imperative to take action as soon as possible.

If you have noticed one or all of these symptoms, you need to take better care of your oral health — plain and simple. Be sure to brush your teeth throughout the day — and floss at least twice daily. This will help combat the plaque on your teeth. In more severe cases, you may want to go get a thorough cleaning by your dentist.

You'll also want to consume a diet that supports healthy teeth and gums, reducing your intake of sugar. Consume more foods rich in folic acid and calcium, such as dark leafy greens.
